New directions for COOLsound – online, about the Romanian independent stage

On Wednesday, 19 April 2023, the new directions for the ‘COOLsound – online despre scena independentă românească / COOLsound – online about the Romanian independent stage’ project to support young freelance artists were announced at CREART (Teatrelli)

One of the new directions that COOLsound will be taking is promotion of Generation Z, meaning future artists who have recently graduated from art schools or are still studying for an M.A. or Ph.D. These are young artists who are just setting out on their careers or are still trying to find their own direction.

The event brought together the project’s initiators, its main partners, and some of the artists who took part over the course of 2021-2022, including Alex Ștefănescu, cellist Cornelius Zirbo, and dancer Arcadie Rusu.

A bilingual project to support young freelance artists, COOLsound – online about the Romanian independent stage (created by ProContemporania with the backing of JTI and in partnership with the Culture Club) was set up in 2021 and showcases representative work by the artists involved, which have been professionally filmed and are brought together on the ProContemporania YouTube channel and the COOLsound.ro website. The project includes bilingual Romanian and English notes, photographs, and video content: a solo performance and an interview/statement, complex multimedia presentations, which provide each artist with a veritable calling card, all of them accessible via www.COOLsound.ro. In the meantime, COOLsound has grown and is becoming a reference work, an online dictionary of Romania’s independent scene that is now entering its third year of supporting Romania’s freelance artists.
