At the end of June, harpist Adriana Cazacu and flautist Mihai Vaida gave concerts in Bucharest (28 June), Deva, (29 June), and Rîmnicu Vîlcea (30 June) as part of the latest edition of the ‘A Storied Harp’ national tour, subtitled Dance and Fantasy. The tour brings to the fore an original instrument preserved in exceptional condition, which belongs to a family with deep musical roots in Romania: the Iușceanu-Corjos family. What drives the project is a desire to bring back to life this jewel of an instrument, an Erard dual-action harp, which symbolises Romanian musical roots and the conservation of tradition in the most wonderful and optimistic way. The pieces selected for this edition of the tour included Enesco’s Prelude from the Suite in the Old Style for Piano, op. 3, Saint-Saens’ Fantasia for Flute and Harp, and Debussy’s Syrinx.
At the end of June,
The harp with which I began this tour a few years ago is a jewel redolent of history, playing which I have each time had the very great pleasure of contributing to the unfurling of the narrative thread.
